Rhode Island, Here We Come...Right Back Where We Almost Started From

So. The last most of you heard, back in the early fall, Luke was digging his PhD program. But the bloom wore off of that rose pretty quickly. Since November he's been exploring other options, and has decided to go into city management. We feel so blessed that he has been offered a position in the field, and as of August 3rd he'll be working for the city of West Warwick, RI. It's a scrappy old mill town that needs some lovin', and Luke's dying to get in there and help things along.
We are so fond of Austin and will miss it so much - especially our ward friends, but this is the best thing for our family right now.
But as for our Cambridge friends - reunion! There are some new additions I'm particularly keen to see: Will & Lily, Lincoln, and Mark there are some big hugs in store for you!

Texas State Capitol

We really love Texas - how can you not love a state that is so enamored of itself? We visited the Capitol grounds last week and finally snapped a photo with all three of us in it!

Cutest Thing in the World

LBJ's Boyhood Home

When Cristie was in town we drove to the Hill Country to see LBJ's boyhood home. Sigh. Their home in Johnson city was just lovely...porches all the way around, with the ceilings painted the most fabulous shade of turquoise to discourage birds from building their nests in the rafters...and a fabulous swing in the backyard. The park ranger surprised me when she answered my request for a copy of the floor plan by handing me a nifty flyer with it all mocked up. Guess I'm not the only one who has fallen in love with it over the years.

Surprise Getaway

Luke surprised me with two announcements at the end of May. 1) His mother would be in town at the end of June and 2) He was taking me to a fab hotel on San Antonio's Riverwalk for 2 nights.
It was amazing! Time alone! And knowing that Laurel was in good hands was priceless! We kept turning to each other and saying, "We're on vacation!" I don't get that as a mom, and Luke said that the best part of the trip was how relaxed I was - we both needed some time to just focus on one another.
One evening, just before 11pm, Luke asked me if I wanted to go out. "But it's so late! Why...?" His answer, "Because we can," was golden - many of the local restaurants had closed, so we just took a stroll in the moonlight and had sparkling water and tapas at the hotel bar.
Anyway, I have the best husband ever and many thanks to Cristie for facilitating our get away and wow we have to do that more often!
