Winter is Coming

Time change, dark and dreary, a high of 39 degrees today....I coped by baking bread, roasting squash, and making a banana cream pie. Hope I'm not priming myself for too much holiday weight gain....
By the way, banana cream pie with a meringue topping instead of a whipped cream topping = delish!

Oooh, I had a killer banana cream pie a few weeks ago in Richmond at a classic Southern food restaurant called Comfort (definitely a must-eat if you're ever in Richmond). The bananas on the top were bruleed. It was heaven even to a non-banana eater like me.

what is it about the holidays that makes the inner baker come out? i'm the same way. the kitchen just needs to smell like yummy baked goods!
